Eventually, I want to add some sort of weather / time-based flair to this site.
On main page: get the user’s approximate location using their IP and fetch information about the weather (temperature, conditions) over there. Make some some comment about it. Show a tasteful animation for rain, sun, etc.
I thought it’d be nice to have my digital garden adapt to each visitor’s weather and time. This is possible simply because of the Internet Protocol (IP) which you must use to access a website.
IP address blocks are allocated to ISPs (Internet Service Providers) which must register their ownership with an Internet registry. And thus, Internet geolocation is possible. It’s not perfect (and would be worrisome if it were), but good enough for something fun like this!
Maybe image-gen?
Climates for webrings
A shared protocol for this?
